Aaron Turner is the first fully-funded Knapp Fellow and a Research Associate at Royal Holloway, University of London. He obtained his PhD in Classics from Royal Holloway in 2018. Aaron’s research interests lie primarily in understanding the fundamental ground of history and how historical consciousness has developed since Antiquity in the context of the relationship between the history of philosophy and the philosophy of history. He is the co-organiser (with Laurence Hemming) of the Heidegger and Classical Thought research project and he runs The Ground of History research project.
Aaron is currently developing a monograph, Thucydides and the Ground of History, which explores the awakening of historical consciousness in ancient Greek thought in the 5th Century BC. He is also editing a volume for De Gruyter, Parmenides, Plato, and the Crisis of Sophistry, co-editing (with Laurence Hemming) a volume for Rowman & Littlefield, Heidegger and Parmenides, and translating (again with Laurence Hemming) a volume of Martin Heidegger’s Gesamtausgabe (or Collected Works) for publication in 2026 for Polity.
In 2020, Aaron edited a volume for De Gruyter, Reconciling Ancient and Modern Philosophies of History, and his edited volume, Heidegger and Classical Thought, was published by SUNY Press in 2024. He has also published numerous articles and book chapters in the areas of classics, history, philosophy, and literature.
