Research Seminar Series 2025/26
In June 2025, Prof. John Marenbon (Trinity College, Cambridge), in conjunction with the Knapp Foundation, hosted a conference on “Freedom in Conservative Thought”. Following on from the success of this conference, Prof. Marenbon will further develop the question of the relationship between conservatism and political philosophy across a series of seminars beginning this month and concluding in Summer 2026. While the Knapp Foundation has no political affiliation, we have been pleased to give a home to projects and academic endeavours that have not found it easy to be accommodated elsewhere. At the heart of these seminars is the problem of the absence of conservative thought from the general discourses of political philosophy in the 21st Century at a time when the basic principles of liberalism are becoming increasingly precarious. This seminar series will build on the important deliberations of the earlier conference toward reconsidering the place and role of conservatism within mainstream political philosophy.
The first seminar of the series will take place on Teams on Friday 21st November at 2pm-4pm (UK time).
Programme
2pm – David McGrogan: “Freedom Under the Law: A Research Agenda for Conservative Jurisprudence”
3pm – Laurence Hemming: “On Not Being Liberal About Sex”
If you would like to register for this seminar series, please send a message to arnaud.devolder@knappfoundation.ac.uk and you will be added to the mailing list.
